Jon’s Great California Adventure wrapped up this week with a visit to the Titan Shops Store at Cal State Fullerton. Jon shares his highlights with us.
It was great to meet with the Titan Shops team this week—I received some great feedback on some of their challenges (getting vendors to stay in stock on popular items!!) and how ICBA can continue to serve their needs. (More education programming, pop-up shop programs, and even more vendor programs with preferred terms!)
I spent a good amount of time with Senior Manager of General Merchandise Rickey Glenn (who is going to be one of our “coaches” at the ICBA Visual Merchandising Institute in February), and with Store Director (and ICBA Board Member) Kim Ball, pictured with me on the left.
I was very impressed with how the staff is trying to innovate and is focusing on keeping their sales floor fresh and inviting. Two areas that caught my attention were floor decals that were placed outside of the store emphasizing course materials savings and the main store entrance that combines great merchandise displays (on both sides as you enter) with dramatic wall graphics showing school spirit (CSUF is well known for having great baseball teams each year).
Like many college stores, they “sub-brand” the Technology department (Titan Tech) and they’ve had good success with a “power wall” of audio (headphones, earbuds, speakers).
They are also trying to be “trend-right” with new merchandise and are doing well with Herschel and are absolutely killing it with HydroFlask.
Thanks to Titan Shops at CSUF and the Bronco Bookstore at Cal Poly Pomona for welcoming me on my visits this week!
